Sandy Rackow Receives 2017 Spring DAISY Award

In 1999, the family of J. Patrick Barnes established the DAISY Foundation after he died of an autoimmune disease. They soon launched a national recognition program, the DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, to honor members of the profession who excel in their delivery of skillful and compassionate care. More than 2,000 hospitals in the US participate in this recognition award for nurses, with KSB’s DAISY Award celebrated twice a year in the fall and spring.

This year’s spring DAISY reception, held at the Next Picture Show, honored thirteen nurses who were nominated for their commitment to our patients and dedication to the field of nursing. KSB is delighted to announce Sandy Rackow, RN as our spring 2017 DAISY Award recipient!

Sandy has cared for patients at KSB for 37 years, and is currently a nurse on our Medical/Surgical floor.  She was nominated by a family member of a patient for the care and love that Sandy showed them during their daughter’s five week stay at KSB.

“My husband and I were amazed daily by the love and care we all three received from all the staff. One day about 4 weeks into my daughters stay, I broke down and felt so sad. I was crying in her room, and Sandy was there for me that day,” wrote her nominator. “She cried with me, hugged me and spent the time making sure I was okay. I know being a nurse myself, that it put her way behind in her day, but I was so very thankful she took the time to lend me her shoulder and heart. I felt truly blessed to have her love and care.”

Congratulations to Sandy on this well-deserved award and to all of our DAISY nominees, we thank you for your dedication to excellence in the field of nursing.
