KSB’s Fall DAISY Award Honors Extraordinary Nurses, Sterling Gwin Named DAISY Winner
KSB Hospital recently celebrated its Fall DAISY Award ceremony, recognizing its nursing staff’s exceptional dedication and compassion. The event at Basil Tree restaurant on November 15th saw 11 outstanding nurses nominated for their exemplary service. Among them, Sterling Gwin from the KSB Emergency Department was named the winner, a testament to his extraordinary commitment to patient care.
Sterling received three nominations, highlighting his exceptional service and dedication in a particularly challenging case. Kelsie, a patient’s family member, praised Sterling for his unwavering support and clear communication during her sister’s critical time in KSB’s emergency room. She noted how Sterling’s knowledge and bedside manner provided comfort and hope during a difficult period.
Another family member, Elizabeth, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Sterling’s dedication as he accompanied her sister in the ambulance to Rockford, ensuring her well-being throughout the journey.
Dr. Brand, a KSB physician, reiterated the compelling story of Sterling’s dedication throughout this challenging case. He shared that despite widespread storms and bad weather conditions, Sterling accompanied this patient in an ambulance to Rockford, demonstrating exceptional commitment and teamwork. Because of him, this patient was successfully transferred to Rockford, where she could get the critical care she needed.
“Sterling is a genuinely thoughtful and compassionate person. He is the kind of nurse you want to work beside and the nurse you want caring for your family. I am so proud of him!” said Emergency Department Director Laura Sawlsville.
Sterling’s career at KSB has been marked by his unwavering dedication and exceptional patient care. He has grown from a hardworking dietary team member to an EMT-B, to an ED Tech, and now a committed Emergency Department nurse. “Sterling tackles new challenges head-on and is deeply invested in enhancing his nursing knowledge and skills,” Laura also shared.
