The Intensive Care Unit at KSB Hospital provides excellent care to patients who require extensive specialized medical needs in a state-of-the-art unit that opened in the spring of 2014. .
THe KSB ICU is staffed with professional RNs and CNAs/Monitor Techs that provide an outstanding 2:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. The ICU staff also includes Advanced Critical Life Support (ACLS)- certified nurses and RNs who are members of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. In addition, KSB Hospital also partners with OSF through an eICU program to assit in the delivery of quality patient care.
Our ICU department utilizes the Hospital Medicine program and an Electronic Nurse Documentation System to better provide care for its patients. It has adopted a patient-care model in which each of the six patient rooms has an individual nursing station outside it.
There is also a separate monitor room so monitor techs can concentrate solely on the patient without being interrupted to answer phones and perform other duties. Each room has a new, high-tech bed that monitors the patient’s condition and provides feedback in the form of data to the nurse.
Our patient beds can play a variety of soothing music as sound therapy for the patient. In addition, beds have built-in voice translators that allow the nurse to speak to the patient in one of 24 different languages. The nurse selects the language and question to ask the patient, and a voice simulator then asks the question.
At KSB, our ICU staff will go above and beyond to make sure our patients are comfortable and receive the best possible care.
