Healthcare reform is impacting every hospital across the country, as well as every person who uses healthcare services. KSB Hospital, and the people of the communities we serve, are no exception.
And we’ve responded.
Recently, among other efforts to improve our patient experience, KSB invested in a program that ties billing to patients’ electronic medical records to streamline the entire billing process.
We have made significant improvements in our billing process.
As part of this technology integration, we have successfully implemented a number of improvements to our billing system to make things easier for patients such as:
- The development of a “master bill” that provides a clearer picture and explanation of key components of your statement
- The ability for you to pay your bill online
- Extending payback time for patients who are receiving backdated bills (see payment plan information below)
We also have faced some challenges.
A new software system always brings new features and new challenges. As our teams worked to integrate our processes in to the new software, we were forced to confront some issues that were causing billing delays. This means people have received their bills longer after their service than normal.
We’re here to help.
We understand that receiving a bill many months after service may raise some questions. That is why we have extended the hours of our patient financial services hotline — now from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday — so you can call when it’s most convenient for you. Additionally, we are now assigning service representatives to each person, so the representative you speak with will follow your issue from your first phone call through to its resolution.

So, where do we go from here?
Sending invoices after your service is taking longer than even just a few years ago due to the additional steps required by those who pay for the patient care we provide, including the government and private insurance companies. As a result, you may not see a bill for many months after your service was rendered.
Don’t be alarmed or think your payment terms may be shortened because you receive a bill months after your service. This is the new reality in healthcare, and we are all adapting. We encourage you to contact us if you have questions about when you might receive your bill.
Take advantage of our payment plan option.
In order to help you manage your healthcare payments, we’ve improved our payment plan options. For example, if you have a bill for $500, you may make monthly payments of $50 for ten months to pay off the bill with no interest.
If your bill is between $100 and $500, your monthly payment is the higher of $20 or 10% of your bill.
If your bill is between $501 and $1,000, your monthly payment is the higher of $50 or 7.5% of your bill.
If your bill is between $1,001 and $2,000, your monthly payment is the higher of $75 or 5% of your bill.
If your bill is between $2,001 and $5,000, your monthly payment is the higher of $100 or 4% of your bill.
If your bill is above $5,000, your monthly payment is 3% of your bill.
